Former West Indies and T&T cricketers the legendary Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard were formally named Ambassadors for Sport for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago by the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs yesterday.
Both men, celebrated globally for their exceptional cricketing careers and leadership, will now take on new roles representing Trinidad and Tobago’s sporting excellence and national pride on the international stage.
Bravo, 41, made his T&T debut in 2002 against Barbados and made his One-Day International debut for the West Indies during England’s 2003/2004 tour of the Caribbean. He retired from playing all forms of the game during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League and was appointed head coach of the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) for the ongoing 2025 Caribbean Premier League.
He’s one of the country’s most decorated sportsmen and has earned worldwide recognition as a premier all-rounder and former West Indies captain. In addition to his success on the cricket field, Bravo has made significant cultural contributions through music and his efforts to promote Trinidad and Tobago globally. His service to sport and culture was recognised in 2015 when he received the Hummingbird Medal (Gold).
Pollard, 38, former captain of the West Indies limited-overs teams, is equally revered for his leadership, professionalism, and achievements in international and franchise cricket. A dominant figure in major T20 leagues around the world, Pollard has long been a proud standard-bearer for Trinidad and Tobago on the global sporting stage.
In a statement, the Ministry said that the appointments underscore the Government’s commitment to celebrating outstanding national performers whose achievements continue to inspire citizens and elevate Trinidad and Tobago’s international reputation.
The ministry expressed its enthusiasm about working with both ambassadors as they champion the values of excellence, teamwork, and national pride and further promote Trinidad and Tobago’s brand across the world.
