National swimmer Liam Carrington won two individual gold medals among four in helping Bolles High School secure their 37th state title in a row when the Florida High School (FHSAA) 1A State Championships took place in Ocala, Florida, on Friday.
Bolles High School swept the title with a tally of 626 points, more than doubling up the next-best teams, Saint Andrew’s School (209), while Pine Crest (160), Montverde Academy (152) and Community School of Naples (96) completed the top five boys teams at the Florida Aquatics Swim and Training Center.
The Bolles dominance was even more prevalent on the boys’ side, as they won every single swimming event on the schedule and swept the podium numerous times.
Leading the way for Bolles were seniors junior Carrington, Andrew Kravchenko, and Xavier Sohovich, all winning two individual events apiece.
Carrington led 1-2-3-4 sweeps for Bolles in both of his wins, spearheading the attack with best times in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, both marking drops of more than a second relative to his personal bests coming into the meet.
Firstly, Carrington won gold in the 200-yard individual medley in one minute, 47.16, to beat schoolmates Cohen Chiam (1:48.66) and Louis Joos (1:49.88) into second and third spots, respectively.
A Marlins member and former Presentation College of San Fernando student, Carrington then won the 100-yard backstroke final in 48.51 seconds, with teammates Krish Jain (49.20) and Ethan Bathala (49.82) taking the second and third spots on the podium.
In the boysyards 200 medley relay, the quartet of Liam Carrinton (22.39), Eldad Zamir (24.88), Antoine Destang (21.05), and Charles Zuhoski (19.77) combined for a gold medal winning time of one minute, 28.09, with St Andrew’s School second in 1:30.78 and Mont Verde Academy third in 1:34.72.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, his final event on schedule, Carrington swam 43.84 seconds on the third leg, behind Xavier Sohovich (44.82) and Destang (44.28) while Andrew Kravchenko (43.50) swam the final leg for a combined time of two minutes, 56.44 seconds.
St Andrew’s School was second in 3:06.17 and Community School of Naples, third in 3:09.81.
Kravchenko, a Stanford commit, won a repeat title in the 50 yards freestyle, knocking three one-hundredths off his personal best in 19.84 seconds, and he followed up by winning the 100 yards freestyle in 43.65, .01 under his personal best.
Sohovich, who is headed to Navy next fall, opened the meet up with a massive best time in the 200-yard freestyle, bringing his personal best down from 1:37.29 minutes to 1:37.04 in the preliminary heats before dropping a time of 1:34.92 in the final.
The 17-year-old followed up with another seismic personal best in the 500-yard freestyle, dropping seven seconds to clock 4:20.27.
