WINNIPEG, Manitoba – T&T's Stanley Chadee Jr headlined his brace with the capture of the feature CAN$35, 000 Chantilly Stakes aboard favourite Melisandre, as he kept up his impressive start to the Assiniboia Downs campaign on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old made virtually all the running with the three-year-old chestnut filly to get the better of the three-year-old fillies by 2-½ lengths in a six furlong sprint in race three.
Melisandra duelled early with Maibella, ridden by Jamaican Leroy Nelson, before opening up on the turn and getting clear into the stretch.
Chadee’s second victory came in another six furlong sprint in race six, bringing 5-1 chance Northern Sky late to beat the three-year-olds and upward by a neck.
Longshot Warrensdirtydancer made the early running through the quarter before Thin Line took over but Chadee caught the leader at the eighth pole and had no challengers at the wire.
T&T's Richard Mangalee also found the winning touch, guiding favourite Anwara to a length victory over the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares, over six furlongs in race four.
In another six furlong sprint in race five, Jamaican Shamaree Muir joined his regional counterparts in winners’ row after stalking aboard favourite In The Deep, grabbing the lead on the turn with the four-year-old gelding and getting to the wire 4-½ lengths clear of the three-year-olds and upward.
Chadee has 11 wins for the season which started May 24, and lies four adrift of leader Jorge Carreno in second.
Nelson and fellow Jamaican Neville Stephenson are tied in third on ten wins.
The season wraps up on September 8.
