Club Sando delivered a commanding performance to secure the Premiership II Trinidad T20 Festival 2026 crown, overpowering Endeavour Sports Club by 70 runs in a high-octane final at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair, Port of Spain Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Club Sando set the tone with a formidable total of 213/7 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a breathtaking display from Guyanese and West Indies hard-hitting batsman Quentin Sampson, who smashed 71 runs off just 23 balls, including three fours and eight sixes. Sampson’s explosive knock, which earned him the Man of the Match award, shifted the momentum decisively in Club Sando’s favour.
Supporting Sampson, skipper Silus Cooper contributed a brisk 37 from 23 balls, while Keron Rampersad added 38 off 27 deliveries. The middle order kept the scoreboard ticking, with Matthew Cooper (16 not out) and Christopher Mitchelle (6) ensuring the team crossed the 200-run mark. Endeavour’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Al Fayyal Ali (2/34) and Sanjay Jawahir (1/45) among the wicket-takers, though they conceded runs at a high rate.
The chase unravels
Chasing a daunting target, Endeavour started brightly thanks to an aggressive 46 from opener Kyle Balraj, who struck six boundaries and two sixes in his 30-ball stay. Mikeal Sinanan (23) and Rahul Basu (23) offered brief resistance, but wickets tumbled at regular intervals as Club Sando’s bowlers tightened their grip.
Adrian Cooper starred with the ball for Club Sando, claiming 4-29 in his four overs, while Calvin Loubon (2/25) and Jase Asson (3/15) provided excellent support. Endeavour’s chase unravelled quickly after the halfway mark, and they were eventually bowled out for 143 in 17.5 overs.
Captains' reactions
Captain Silus Cooper shared how special the win was.
“Well, this is really special for Club Sando. This is the first one (T20 title), coming up here twice so far. I think it's awesome that the guys are really proud and happy for this moment.”
The win had extra meaning for the San Fernando-based team, which had just missed promotion to Premier Division One in the League.
“Words cannot say how we feel about losing by just two points and not completing the season with the two-day league title also.”
It's a long week of celebrations ahead, as brothers Silus, Adrian, and Matthew Cooper can now share in celebrating cricket titles this year, alongside brothers Cephas (Red Force First-Class win and Powergen Midweek 30 Overs) and Akeil (Powergen) earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, Endeavour captain Andy Gobin was pleased with the effort of the runners-up.
“It's always a disappointment to lose the final, but however, at the end of the day, one team have to win, one team have to lose. Unfortunately, we're on the losing end today, but nevertheless, I think our boys gave a good showing throughout the tournament and throughout the year.”
On the bright side, Endeavour was appearing in their first final at this level in local cricket, and Gobin is happy they could achieve that milestone.
He said, “It's always a good feeling, after 20 years or so, the club have reached the T20 final or a final in Premier 2 cricket. But, you know, the good bunch of players we have this year, you know, it's about gaining experience. Hopefully, as I say, we come trumps next year."
Reflecting on the season
Endeavour Sports president and manager Narine Cassie reflected on the season as the final marked the end of local club cricket.
“This season for us was really good. It started off kind of challenging, but we rode the ups and downs. We managed to finish fourth in the league. We were losing semifinalists in the 50 overs, and in the T20, we ran second. So it was a really good experience.”
Club Sando’s ticket to the final was booked when they delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure a 68-run victory over Woodland SC in the semifinal two at the same venue on Thursday night.
In the other semifinal clash, Endeavour clinched a 29-run victory over Caldrac to book their place in the final.
