Fatima College ‘A’ captured the Boys’ Under-14 Division title in the 2020 T&T Rugby Football Union (T&TRFU) Secondary Schools’ Rugby League following a comfortable 15-0 blanking of their Fatima College ‘B’ schoolmates at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, on Friday.
Going into the match, Fatima ‘A’ had won their previous four matches in the four-team two-rounds round-robin competition for a 4-0 record and maximum 12 points, six ahead of closest rivals St Benedict’s College and Trinity College Moka, with two matches left for each school.
However, with Friday’s win, their fourth in five matches without allowing their opponents a point, Fatima College ‘A’ pushed their tally to an unassailable 15 points from five matches with a remaining match against Trinity College left on Wednesday (February 19).
Trinity College slipped to the third spot with a 2-3 win-loss record after a similar 15-0 loss to new second-placed team St Benedict’s College (3-2), who have nine points, ahead of their final encounter with Fatima College ‘B.’
Trinity, CIC set up U-18 final
Trinity College Moka and St Mary’s College will square off in the Boys’ Under-18 Division decider on Wednesday after both scored convincing semifinal wins on Friday.
In the first final-four clash, Pool A round-robin winners Trinity College extended their unbeaten run to six matches by trouncing Pool B runner’s-up San Juan North Secondary 20-0 while St Mary’s College, who topped Pool B with a 4-0 record, crushed Pool A runner’s-up Fatima College 24-5 in their semifinal.
In addition to Wednesday’s final, Fatima College and San Juan North will face-off in the bronze medal match before the final.
San Juan, Providence vie for Girls’ crown
A new champion will be crowned in the Girls’ Open Division competition on Wednesday when favourites San Juan North Secondary and Providence Girls’ High School meet in the title match.
This after San Juan North ended the six-team round-robin phase with an impeccable 5-0 record thanks to their 30-0 demolition of South East Port-of-Spain Secondary to end with maximum 15 points, three ahead of Providence (4-1), who blanked last year’s winners Bishop Anstey High School (2-3) 15-0 in their final round-robin match.
Tranquillity Government Secondary (2-3) won by default from Bishop’s Centenary (1-4) ahead of their meeting for the fifth spot.
