Tobagonians Josiah Hills and Makeda Bain carried their haul of titles to three each when they won two more finals each in the Lease Operators Limited Junior Tennis Tournament at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, on Sunday.
Winners of their respective Under-14 Division Singles titles a week ago at the same venue, both Hills and Bain added the U-16 Singles accolades as well as the Senior Doubles crowns to their tallies.
First up, the third-ranked Hills made light work of ‘giant-killer Jacob Jacelon 6-4, 6-3 in the Boys’ U-16 decider to follow up on his win over Nirav Dougdeen 6-3, 6-1 in the U-14 decider, a week ago.
The top-ranked Hills then teamed up with Dougdeen to claim the Senior Boys Doubles with a straightforward 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Jack Brown and Christopher Khan.
Earlier on in the semifinals, Hills and Dougdeen ousted Noah Blanc and Jaysean Wells 6-0, 6-3 while Brown and Khan defeated Connor Carrington and Jacelon 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
This after, Hills and Dougdeen won their quarterfinal on Saturday night against Deron Dumas and Daniel Rahaman by walkover while Carrington and Jacelon beat Oliver Harragin and Darius Rahaman 6-2, 4-6, 10-4, Brown and Khan bettered Jovan Garibana and Justin Horsford 7-5, 6-4, and Blanc and Wells powered past Javed Dowlat and Jaiden Gormandy 6-3, 6-2.
Bain, who humbled Madison Khan 6-3, 6-3 for the U-14 crown a week ago repeated her triumph in their second straight finals meeting by the same margin, 6-3, 6-3 yesterday.
In the Senior Girls Doubles championship match, Bain and Lilly Mohammed, the top-seeded duo, outplayed Khan and Eva Pasea in a marathon contest 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
In the semifinals, Bain and Mohammed dumped Zahra Shamsi and Shiloh Walker 7-5, 6-0 while Khan and Pasea beat Suri Ramcharan and Charis Salina 6-1, 6-4.
On Saturday in the quarterfinals, Bain and Mohammed were on a bye while Khan and Pasea rallied past Karissa Mohammed and Cyra Ramcharan 5-7, 7-5, 10-7; Shamsi and Walker spanked Laura-Li Maillard and Ana Sanchez 6-2, 6-2, and Ramcharan and Salina outlasted Naomi Mohammed and Charde Sylvester 6-2, 1-6, 10-8.
In the U-18 category finals, Naomi Campbell whipped Maillard 6-3, 6-4 to top the four-player round-robin series with a 3-0 record with the latter second at 2-1, and Sanchez defeating Salina 6-2, 6-3 to avoid the wooden spoon among the girls while Daniel Rahaman won the three-player boys round-robin with victories over Jayden Mitchell, and Deron Dumas.
