Tahi­rah Hollingsworth helped Po­lice Youth Club (PYC) stay on course to fin­ish run­ner-up in the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion of the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League af­ter beat­ing Unit Trust Cor­po­ra­tion (UTC) Sparks, 44-20 on Thurs­day evening.

This was in the sec­ond match of a dou­ble­head­er played at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Tacarigua. In the open­ing match, third-place De­fence Force bat­tled to a 38-31 vic­to­ry over win­less Las Lo­mas.

Hollingsworth, the goal-at­tack, led with 23 goals from 42 at­tempts and her goal-shoot­er men's play­er Fab­rice Fish­er was a bit more ac­cu­rate in get­ting his 21 goals from 27 tries.

The shoot­ers had the PYC team ahead at the end of each quar­ter, 7-4 in the first, 17-10 at half­time and in the third, 29-16, be­fore com­plet­ing the 22-goal win to ce­ment its place in the sec­ond spot be­hind cham­pi­on Fire Ser­vice, who claimed the ti­tle fol­low­ing its un­beat­en run this sea­son. To­day, a win against PYC will see the fire of­fi­cers com­plete a flaw­less sea­son.

Sparks, who had men's play­er Dave Alexan­der con­tribut­ing the bulk of their goals with 12 of 28 as the goal-at­tack, will be back on the court this af­ter­noon in their fi­nal league match of the sea­son against De­fence Force, which is com­ing off a nar­row sev­en-point vic­to­ry over Las Lo­mas.

Goal-at­tack Ker­ry McMil­lan was the lead­ing scor­er for De­fence Force with 26 from 39 while Las Lo­mas' men's play­er Im­manuel Rus­sell was best with 15 in 24 in a los­ing ef­fort.

Ini­tial­ly, Las Lo­mas held the ad­van­tage, lead­ing 10-7 at the end of the first quar­ter but fad­ed in the sec­ond pe­ri­od to trail 21-14 at the half. The army/coast­guard com­bi­na­tion unit re­mained ahead in­to the third be­fore seal­ing the win.

Open­ing the day's events will be TSTT and Jabloteh in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion from 12.30 pm.
