The Brechin Castle Open Golf Tournament lived up to expectations to kick off the annual golfing calendar. The two-day event which had Sagicor General as one of three title sponsors, took place on the weekend of January 11-12 at the Sevilla Golf and Club House in Couva, with some 100 participants.
The end of the tournament saw Sol Joanni with the 149, first place gross, in the Championship flights, with Sarah Ramphal topping the Female flight with 162 gross.
Keston Howell, president and chief executive officer, Sagicor General, said, "Partnering with events such as these ensures that Sagicor holds to our vision to be a great company committed to improving the lives of the people in the communities in which we operate.
"We were impressed with the passion and camaraderie amongst the golfers at the event and delighted to have been able to contribute to giving our golfers the opportunity to hone their skills before hitting the international stage with the national team."
The Brechin Castle Golf Club was established in 1926, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in T&T.
The tournament, like the Sagicor St Andrews Golf Tournament, awards points to T&T’s national golfers to qualify for the national team. The golf club also reinvests any income generated from the tournament to purchase equipment and to continue to develop the course.
