T&T's Aqeel Joseph added to the University of Indianapolis gold medal tally on the second and final day of the University of Indianapolis Invitational Meet at Center Grove High School, Indianapolis on Sunday.
Joseph, who was not among the medals on Saturday, then swam the third leg after Bartek Swiderski, and Brayden Cole while Kyle Sinclair was the fourth and final swimmer for Indianapolis en route to winning the men’s 200-yards medley relay in one minute, 29.83 seconds.
The Indiana University Purdue ended with the silver medal in 1:31.65, and the Indianapolis University ‘B’ quartet of Jan Zuchowicz, Diego Mas, and T&T duo, Thompson and Kael Yorke, took bronze in 1:33.96.
Winner of gold medals on Saturday as part of the 200-yards freestyle relay in one minute, 21.31 seconds, and the 400-yards medley relay in 3:17.93 minutes, Thompson had to settle for silver in the men’s 100-yard backstroke in 50.41 seconds, behind Swiderski (50.08), while Grand Valley State University's Roger Miret Sala earned bronze in 50.73.
It was a busy final day for Thompson as he also added a bronze in the 50-yards freestyle in 20.99 seconds behind his fellow Indianapolis teammates Joao Silva (20.71) and Victor Antonon Rodriguez (20.81) while Joseph was ninth in 21.35.
Then in the 200-yard medley relay, Thompson and Yorke combined with Liki Prema and Mas for silver in 1:29.66.
Their Indianapolis ‘A’ teammates won gold in 1:28.95 while Lindenwood University swam to bronze in 1:29.73.
And in the 400-yards freestyle relay, Thompson teamed up with Joao Silva, Mas and Rodriguez for silver in 3:01.28 to trail Lindenwood (3:00.64) while Wingate (3:02.09) and Joseph was part of the D team which ended 11th in 3:10.36.
Joseph was part of the Indianapolis ‘C’ quartet which included Andras Tiszai, Brayden Cole and Austin Kehr for the seventh spot in 1:32.01.
Thompson also secured a silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.41 behind Swiderski (50.08) with Grand Valley State University’s Sala, getting bronze in 50.73.
However, in the 100-yards freestyle, Thompson could only muster a sixth-place finish in 45.76 and Joseph, 13th in 46.49
And in the 100-yards butterfly Yorke, a gold medal winner on Saturday in the 400-yards medley relay had to settle for bronze in 49.06 seconds behind Lindenwood University’s Elliot Irwin (48.59) while Armengol Saura of Grand Valley was second in 49.05, and Joseph, 16th in 50.80.
Indiana Purdue’s Spencer Jyawook (49.22) while Jackman Van Wanzeele also of Indianapolis was third in 52.05, and Joseph, sixth in 53.17.
Yorke then got a bronze medal as part of his school ‘B’ team in the 200-yard freestyle relay alongside Sebastiaan Rottier, Austin Kehr and Sebastian Wenk in one minute, 25.75 seconds.
But in the 200-yards butterfly, Yorke was seventh fastest in 1:52.35
The Indianapolis ‘A’ quartet won in 1:23.05 minutes while Indiana Purdue was second in 1:24.36.
Overall, the T&T trio and their University of Indianapolis team-mates won the meet with 860 points, well ahead of Lindenwood who tallied 702 while Wingate ended third with 655.5 points, followed by Grand Valley (642.5), and Nova Southeastern University (466).
It was a double delight for the University of Indy as their women’s swimming team also topped their table with 787.5 points, with Wingate (687), Lindenwood (669.5), Nova Southeastern (630) and Grand Valley (554) completing the top five.
