Twenty-Five-year-old T&T apprentice jockey Lenny Seecharan who won the Hastings Race Course – Champion Apprentice Title in 2019 and 2020, is back in the limelight. Lenny Seecharan who rode 18 winners to become the champion, landed his first winners of the 2021 season at Hastings Racecourse on Wednesday.
Seecharan landed the Babara Heads trained Cha-Ching who came from ten lengths behind in the back-straight to get up at odds
of 12-1 to in an upset win over 61/2 furlongs at the track last night.
After a decent break, Seecharan skilfully rated his mount through some torrid opening fractions of 21.64, 44.51 and she was able to run by her male counterparts in the stretch.
At the halfway mark, Seecharan was contented to begin closing slightly. However, coming to the final turn for the stretch drive, Seecharan began asking his mount to move forward in earnest.
At the top of the straight, she ran on strongly for a good win.
Seecharan came back in the final event on the card to land the 9-2 fancy Day Trek for trainer Craig MacPherson.The Canyon Farm owned horse after a troubled passage still managed to get out in the stretch and rally to victory giving Seecharan his winning ride of the evening.
Seecharan's twin brother Learie is in Trinidad and Tobago due to the Covid-19 restriction he was unable to leave before the borders were closed.
Seecharan said, "He was happy to have ridden the winners for trainer MacPherson as the horse travelled well in the race and picked up when he asked him to run. "He said, "My intention last year was to get as much experience as I can and I want to do the same in 2020 and get as many winners as I can.
Seecharan thanked God for his success before thanking his agent for the tremendous job which he did.
The twins made their racing debuts together as 19-year-old apprentice jockeys at Santa Rosa Park in Trinidad on March 28, 2015. Lenny made his way to Hastings in 2017 and has returned there every year thereafter for the 52-day meet season.
