Laser Sailor Andrew Lewis has confirmed his participation in his third Olympic Games, this time in Tokyo Japan later this year.
He earned this berth on Saturday afternoon by finishing fourth overall at a series of events at the Hempel World Cup Series Regatta in Miami, USA after posting positions 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 5th, 8th, 8th and 17th over the past five days from January 20.
Lewis out-sailed his rivals, particularly from Canada and Mexico who were also competing for country spots.
Over 40 sailors from three countries contested the event. Commenting on his performance and qualification afterwards, Lewis said, “This was a long hard journey especially after the accident. I am thankful to God and my team for helping me along this path."
"Yesterday (Saturday) was the anniversary of when I started training with my coach, Javier Hernandez Cebrian, what better way to celebrate it than my Olympic qualification. Thank you also to my sponsors Atlantic, Tatil, Blue Waters, Republic Bank and also the Ministry of Sport & Youth Affairs and the Sport Company of T&T. I wouldn't have been able to achieve this without them. And of course, T&T, thank you for your continued love and support, messages and positive vibes," Lewis said.
