MIC leads the Premier Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League with eight points in four matches.
After three wins in as many matches, the MIC women continued their unbeaten run at the Eastern Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua on Saturday (February 1) with a comprehensive 63-27 demolition of Jabloteh. This win came after the prolific Janeisha Cassimy drained 47 goals from 56 attempts and goal-attack Reeka Seeratan added 14 from 22.
It was the second time the MIC women unleashed such destruction on their weaker but developing counterparts. In the first meeting between the teams, the MIC women who coincidentally train with Jabloteh, crushed their counterparts 61-10.
However, Jabloteh’s slow but steady progress in the sport took shape with a victory over the Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) recently, enabling them to stay one step from the bottom of the four-team chart.
On Saturday, though they gave a fighting display with goal-shoot Abeni Taylor sinking 14 from 19 and Akeela Rodriguez scoring eight from 12, although the MIC women led all quarters 18-4, 34-10, and 46-17.
In the other premier division on Saturday, defending champions UTT ran away with a convincing 66-25 victory over UTC; however, their lone loss to the leaders (MIC) still haunts them. The dangerous Shania Morgan again grabbed the spotlight with 45 from 58 tries to lead the UTT attack.
Morgan received much support from Kalifa McCollin-Lopez who had 21-23 on the night as they dominated at all quarters 15-6, 32-12 and 48-20.
The UTC women, who are yet to get their first win of the season, got figures of eight goals from 15 from Liliah Matthews, and 12 from 20 from goal-shoot Crystal Noel Cockburn.
Meanwhile, in the Championship Division, the UTT thrashed Defence Force 49-32. The university women benefited from a near-perfect 31 goals from 32 attempts by Jenicia Goodridge, coupled with 12 from 19 from Aquila Blugh in romping to the victory.
For the Defence Force, Jada Hamilton led the scoring with 21 from 33 tries.
In another game, Elisha Ramkissoon delivered 21 goals from 37 to steer MIC to a 39-21 triumph over PNYC. Despite a performance that resulted in 19 goals from 35 attempts for PNYC’s Cheryse James, it proved to be insufficient on the night, with Ramkissoon being supported by Erica Job’s 11 from 21, and Kellie Ann Alexander’s six from 12 tries.
Meanwhile, in another championship division encounter, the University of the West Indies edged Bermudez 41-40, courtesy of figures of 36 from 40 from Maikea Bramble and four from 12 from Kayla Julien.
Bermudez was led by Nekeisha Gomes, who sank 24 from 30 tries.
