Javanah Moreno and former national player Khadidra Debesette scored two goals each to lead Club Sando to a commanding 7-0 mauling of Kamillionare in the South/Central Conference of the 2022 T&T Women’s League Football Ascension Tournament at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium Training Field, Marabella on Sunday.
Moreno got her goals in the 12th and 29th minutes while Debesette netted her double in the 33rd and 67th minutes for Club Sando, 6-0 ahead at the half-time interval with Jahra Thomas (23rd), Renee Mike (25th) and Amanda Nanan (39th) the other players on target in the dominant win, the fourth in five matches for 13 points, four more than St Augustine FC which fell to a shock 1-0 defeat against UTT Patriots at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
The heroine for UTT Patriots was captain Shenelle Jordan with the decisive item in the 72nd minute to earn her team their first win in four matches.
In the four-club Northern Conference, leaders Defence Force needed a 65th-minute strike from Jamila Murphy to earn a share of the points with Queen’s Park Cricket Club after leading 2-0 early on at St Mary’s College Ground, Serpentine Road, St Clair on Saturday.
Winners of their previous three matches, the Army/Coast-Guard combination women looked set for a fourth straight win after the tournament’s leading scorer Aaliyah Prince scored in the 16th and 24th minutes, for a 2-0 lead and personal tally of 15 goals, seven clear of St Augustine FC’s Breana Smith.
However, the Parkites would even up the match before the half-time interval thanks to Orielle Martin, in the 26th, her fifth of the campaign, and in the 36th minute through Ashlee Alonzo, from the penalty spot with her sixth of the season.
Nine minutes into the second half, Alonzo fired in the go-ahead item for the Parkites, her seventh of the campaign, however that lead was short-lived as Murphy then netted the equaliser after which both clubs failed to find the winner.
The drawn result maintained Defence Force’s unbeaten run, but they dropped their first points of the season to lead the table with ten from four matches, the same as the Parkites, who have played a match more.
The other Northern Conference clash between North Coast and Diego Martin Central at the San Juan North Secondary School, Bourg Mulatresse will be decided by the league’s Disciplinary Committee after it was halted with North Coast ahead 3-0 via goals from Ronnellian Bobb, Starr Humphreys and Alianne George at the half-time interval due to a fracas.
There were no matches last weekend in the Eastern and Tobago Conference while matches in all four conferences will resume this weekend.
At the end of the four conferences, the top two teams will advance to the national “Big-Eight” playoffs from which the eventual tournament winners will pocket $20,000 while the second-place finisher gets $15,000 and the third spot, $10,000.
