Cyclists Nicholas Paul and Jabari Whiteman, one a sprinter and the other an endurance rider, featured prominently on day two and three of the National Track Cycling Championship at the National Cycling Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva on Thursday and Friday nights.
Paul, a world record holder in the flying 200 metres last year, before officially booking a spot at the Olympic Games in Tokyo Japan later this year, did not disappoint, and for a second time last week, dominated every race he participated in, including the keirin event, as his national team teammate Kwesi Browne was not there.
The Central Sports rider first dominated in the Elite Men's Keirin events, taking the gold medal ahead of Quincy Alexander of Team DPS and third Michael Ackee of Evolution Academy.
Paul also secured the win in the Under-23 division, holding off Ackee and Darius Beckles, another Evolution Academy rider.
Whiteman on the other hand, was unstoppable in the Elite Men's Individual Pursuit, claiming a one-two-three with second place Sheldon Ramjit and third Maurice Burnette, while also securing the gold medal for the under-23s.
Whiteman, recognised for his potential from an early age, returned to the tracks later to claim the win in the Scratch Race for Elite Men, as well as in the under-23 category.
Meanwhile, Gregory Dandrade was expected to be elected to the position of Vice President Racing, at an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) on Saturday at the NCC.
The position became vacant following the elevation of Joseph Roberts to the post of president recently. Dandrade is the lone candidate for the position and was expected to be unopposed.
