T&T’s Chris Richards Jr ended in the 46th spot at the 2023 Latin American Amateur Championships at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Puerto Rico.
Richards Jr shot an even-par 72 on Thursday’s opening day and followed it up with scores of two-under-par 70 on Friday, followed by two over-par 74 on Saturday, and a five-over-par 77 on yesterday’s final day of competition for an overall score of five-over-par 293 and 46th position.
The winner of the tournament was Argentina’s Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira (68, 67, 63, 67) with a four-day total of 23-under, 265 while Mexico’s Luis Carrera who led for the first two days ended in the second spot with four shots behind 19-under 269 (67, 67, 68, 67) while Argentina’s Vincente Marzilio took third with 17-under 271 (67, 70, 66, 68)
The other T&T player at the tournament Zico Correia had a disappointing start to the competition with rounds of 79, and 74 for a two-day total of nine over-par 153 for joint 81st with five other players from a field of 107 golfers to miss the cut.
The local duo was selected for the tournament based on their World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
