Canada-born T&T goalkeeping target Dayne St Clair saw his Minnesota United club record for keeping a clean sheet halted when he conceded two second-half goals after the Houston Dynamo completed a second-half comeback from two goals down to grab a precious point with a 2-2 draw away in the US Major Soccer League on Sunday.
With T&T international Kevin Molino conducting things in midfield, the Loons found the opening goal only 11 minutes into the game when Kei Kamara sent the ball down the left flank for Robin Lod who made his way into the box and set up a wide-open Ethan Finlay on the right side of the box to notch his third goal of the season.
It was not long before Finlay added his and Minnesota's second of the game after Jacori Hayes found the Minnesota native with a beautiful through pass down the middle of the field for him to beat Marko Maric confidently to put the Loons up 2-0.
By that point, Minnesota had already lost one of their starters after Hassani Dotson needed to be substituted in the 14th minute due to a left ankle injury following a rough challenge in the centre of midfield from Houston's Adam Lundkvist. Veteran Osvaldo Alonso took Dotson's place in his first game back since getting injured on September 6.
And in the 59th minute, Minnesota's lead was cut in half when Memo Rodriguez continued his fine start to the season, finishing from the right side of the box after being found by Darwin Quintero following an interception in the centre of midfield by Darwin Ceren.
The goal ended 23-year-old Pickering-native St Clair's run without allowing a goal ended at 349 minutes, the longest streak in franchise history.
Seven minutes before the end, St Clair conceded another as the Dynamo were rewarded for their second-half turnaround. Niko Hansen, who had substituted into the game at halftime, benefited from a mix up in the Minnesota defence and a deflection off St. Clair to finish from close range.
In another match, Nick De Leon, the son of former T&T standout, Leroy De Leon came off the bench in the 66th minute for Tsubasa Endoh as Toronto RC edged Atlanta United 1-0 thanks to a Pablo Piatti game-winning goal in the 89th minute at Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford.
The goal came off a cross from Toronto right back Richie Laryea and Piatti redirected the ball with his head past Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan and inside the far post. The result allowed Toronto to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches (7W-0L-2D) and maintain the best record in MLS (12W-2L-5D).
And at Earthquakes Stadium, San Jose Earthquakes and the Seattle Sounders minus injured T&T winger Joevin Jones split the points, battling to a 0-0 draw in the Western Conference bout between the sides.
The result was in stark contrast to the last match between the teams on September 10 that saw Seattle explode for five goals in the first 33 minutes on their way to a 7-1 victory. The Quakes remain above the playoff line with the result, as their 23 points leave them in the seventh spot in the Western Conference. The Sounders managed to retain their deadlocked spot at the top of the table thanks to the Portland Timbers' 1-1 draw with LAFC.
