Former T&T Red Force all-rounder Navin Stewart continues to impress with the bat in the Tobago Chief Secretary Bago T10 Cricket Blast Tournament on Saturday night. Stewart hammered an unbeaten 55 against Fort King George to take his team to its first win of the tournament at the Cyd Gray Sports Complex in Roxborough, Tobago.
Chasing 95 for victory, Stewart opened the batting and guided his team to victory for the loss of one wicket with three balls to spare. This followed his 48 runs recorded on the opening night on Friday in a losing cause to Buccoo Reef Divers.
After Ancil Nedd produced an impressive bowling performance to claim 2/16 to restrict Fort King George, despite 41 not out from Shaquille Duncan, but it was Stewart, who was adamant to lead his team to victory. His 55 not out came off just 24 balls with three fours and six sixes.
To date Stewart has struck 12 sixes in two innings, bringing tremendous excitement to all in attendance. The loss for Fort King George means that they are now winless after two games and will have to win their final four matches to stand a chance of making the top two for a place in the finals next Friday.
In the nightcap game, Buccoo Reef Divers continued their winning ways as they took care of Little Tobago Islanders by 16 runs. Divers batted first and scored 101/3 off 10 overs with Ako Goerge hitting 58 not out off 29 balls including five sixes and two fours.
In response, Islanders lost four quick wickets to be reduced to 27/4. Back in the hut was the main batsman and skipper Lerron Lezama for 15. After this, it was difficult for Islanders to come back and they ended on 85/7.
The action continued last night with another doubleheader.
