Former national all-rounder, Navin Stewart continues to impress with the bat, scoring his second successive half-century to lead his team Rainforest Rangers to victory over Little Tobago Islanders in their Chief Secretary Bago T10 Blast clash at the Cyd Gray Stadium in Roxborough.
Stewart has made this tournament his own and so far has counted scores of 48, 54 not out and 59 not out to lead the runs-scoring chart with 161 runs at an average of 161.0. On Sunday, he took Rainforest to their second victory in three matches which puts them in the second position on the four-team standings.
Batting first, Little Tobago Islanders made 75 for three with skipper Lerron Lezama scoring 30. Shaffique Sheppard was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/14. Stewart then took over striking five sixes in his knock of 59 not out as his team reached 76/1 for the win. He has so far totalled 17 sixes in this tournament.
In the second match, Buccoo Reef Divers continued their 100 per cent win record, as they defeated winless Fort King George Gunners by 51 runs. Skipper Jahron Alfred with brilliant with the ball taking three wickets for four runs, as he is now the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with six scalps.
Ako George followed up his unbeaten half-century in the last match with a hard-hit 47 to take Buccoo Reef to the highest score of the tournament 132/7. Also among the runs was Clinton Brooks with 28 off nine balls. Kieshawn Dillon (2/11) and Shaquille Duncan (2/21) were the best of the bowlers for Fort King George.
In response, they were restricted to 81 for six with Alfred 3/4 and Anthony Providence 2/14. The tournament was scheduled to continue last night.
