Olympic javelin gold medallist Keshorn Walcott will open his season at the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) Track and Field series six at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago on Sunday.
The Unattached athlete will feature in the men's javelin from noon and will be challenged by seven other competitors including Anthony Diaz of Point Fortin New Jets, Zenith duo Mickelle Edwards and Areion Edwards, Shakeil Waithe (Unattached), Tahir Edwards (Kaizen Panthers), Che Rochford (Kaizen Panthers) and Justin Fisher (Rss Phoenix).
In the most recent NAAA meet, series five, on March 21 at the Hasely crawford Stadium, Waithe was the lone competitor and his best throw measured 77.58 metres.
Last season was a bust for Walcott, who won gold in 2012 and was a bronze medallist in 2016, and who like other athletes had to put everything on hold due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which is still a threat across the globe to all aspects of life.
Jumper Janae De Gannes will also be in action at series six, aiming to improve on the field. She will compete in both the long jump and high jump events in the Girls' Under-17 category as she continues her preparation for the upcoming Carifta Games set for Bermuda in August.
The Concorde athlete has topped the long jump event at two NAAA meets thus far, the first and fifth series.
