Blue Dolphins’ Zarek Wilson picked up his fifth gold medal of the meet after he won the Boys’ 13-14 age-group 200 metres Freestyle in a Carifta Games A qualifying time of 1:59.57 seconds as action in the National Age group Long Course Championships continued at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Saturday night.
Trailing Wilson home was the Marlins duo of Josiah Changar (2:04.57) and Ibrahima Diouf (2:17.35) in second and third respectively.
Rwb Academy’s Giovanni Rivas, who helped himself to three gold medals during Friday night’s programme, also followed up with three more medals, this time two golds and a silver.
Rivas struck gold in the Boys’ 11-12 100 metres backstroke in 1:08.93, which is inside the Carifta standard of 1:08.96, while getting the better of Liam Carrington of Barracudas (1:1345) and TWA’s Shaelen Reece in 1:14.48 seconds.
His second gold was in the 200 metres Individual Medley event in which he touched first the finish pad in 2:33.37 seconds with Marlins’ Zachary Anthony second in 2:35.75 and Carrington third in 2:36.75.
However, Rivas had to settle for second place in the 200 metres Freestyle contest in 2:17.30 seconds. The race was won by Anthony, who stopped the clock in 2:15.62 seconds wwhile Carrington third in 2:17.81 seconds.
Meanwhile, among the girls, Atlantis’ Keryn Burke, Marlins’ Zoe Anthony and Jada Chatoor and TSU’s Kami Morean recorded double gold medal performances.
Burke won the Girls’ 11-12 200 metres Freestyle race in 2:23.11 seconds, which is within the C qualifying standard for Carifta. Sydney Lok Fong of Barracudas followed her home in 2:28.34 seconds with Madara Edwards, of Sea Hawks SC, third in 2:30 27 seconds.
Burke also won the 100 metres Backstroke event in 1:15.83 seconds with Barracudas’ Siena Jagdeo second in 1:2031 seconds and TWA’s Shauna Nelson third in 1:20.58 seconds.
Anthony picked up gold in the 13-14 age group 200 metres Freestyle event in 2:14.62 seconds and the 200 metres Individual Medley in 2:35.35 seconds.
Chatoor dominated the Girls’ 15-17 age group 200 metres Freestyle event with a time of 2:13.45 seconds from Blue Dolphins Terri Yates (2:22.85) and Marlins’ Dominique Nurse-Allen (2:24.44) respectively.
Chatoor also won the 200 metres Individual Medley test in 2:39.72 seconds ahead challengers Jade Foncette of Blue Dolphins (2:49.23) and Adij R Diouf of Marlins (2:58.39).
Morean contested the Girls’ 18 and Over age group and dominated the 200 metres Freestyle event in 2:32.69 seconds, outlasting Sea Hawks’ Shanntol Ince, who clocked 2:3920 seconds. Her second gold medal on the night was achieved during the 50 metres Breaststroke sprint in which she sped to the finish in a time of 39.44 seconds from Deshor Edwards of Atlantis (40:46) and Khrystanne George of TNTAQ in 56:02 second respectively.
