Top seed Cameron Wong sealed a place in the Girls Under-18 final of the 2021 Catch National Junior Tennis Championship at Public Courts, Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair on Thursday, where she will face Aalisha Alexis in what is expected to be a mouth-watering clashon Friday.
Both, national standouts, prevailed in their respective semifinal matches, with Wong disposing of Kryshelle Cudjoe in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 on court one, while Alexis got the better of the in-form Zara Ghuran in two sets 7-5, 6-2.
Meanwhile, the Boys equivalent will pit second-seeded Jamal Alexis and top-seed Ethan Wong on a collision course for the title.
The latter, on court 6, defeated Tim Pasea 6-3, 6-1 in the round of four, before Alexis cruised to the final with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Drew Quashie.
In the Boys Under-16 division, Luca Shamsi hardly broke a sweat in defeating Saqiv Williams 6-1, 6-0 for the right to contest Friday's final against Sebastien Byng, the division's second-seeded player who is unbeaten to date.
During the day's programme Byng got the better of Luca Denoon in straights sets 6-2, 6-3.
Among the Girls- Ella Carrington turned back the number one seeded Cameron Wong 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-8 for the right to contest the title match against the unbeaten Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph, who defeated fourth-ranked Zara Ghuran 6-3, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Jaysean Wells produced the performance of his life to upset number-one seed, Zelig Wiliams, for a place in the final of the Boys 10 and Under division. Wells went down in the opening set 4-5(5) but stormed back in the second 5-4(5) to level the contest at one apiece. Then he sealed the win with a 10-8 triumph in the final play-off.
Wells will now face Josiah Hills, who encountered similar challenges in his semifinal affair, before prevailing 4-1, 5-4(3) in his game.
And among the Girls u-10s, Ysanne Williams upstaged second-seed Karissa Mohammed 5-4(4), 4-1, for the right to meet Makeda Bain, who earlier defeated Abba Campbell-Smith, the number one seed 4-1, 1-4, 10-5.
Other semifinal results: (Boys 12&Under)- Kale Dalla Costa def Isaiah Boxill 6-4, 6-4; Connor Carrington bt Brian Harricharan 4-2, 4-1.
(Girls 12&Under)- Zara Shamsi def Naomi Mohammed 4-0, 4-1.
(Boys 14&Under)- Zachery Byng prevailed over Jordell Chapman 6-0, 6-1.
