Twelve female foreigners were arrested during a raid by police and immigration officers at a popular Marabella hotel on Friday night. Five are expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate tomorrow, charged with illegal entry into the country and tampering with their passports.
The other seven are to be deported, officers said. Ranging between 21 to 32 years old, the women are said to be from Suriname, the Dominican Republic and Colombia. The raid took place between 9 pm and 1 am. Involved in the exercise were officers of the Port of Spain CID, Inter Agency Task Force and officers attached to the Immigration Department in Port-of-Spain and San Fernando.
