Fi­del Sankar, 32, is the new Mr T&T, fol­low­ing his con­vinc­ing per­for­mance at Sat­ur­day's Na­tion­al Ju­nior Body Build­ing and Fit­ness Cham­pi­onship staged by the T&T Body Builders and Fit­ness Fed­er­a­tion (TTBBFF). This was at the ball­room of the Cas­ca­dia Ho­tel and Con­fer­ence Cen­tre, St Ann's, where Sankar pressed his com­peti­tor in the men's light heavy­weight class to bet­ter him. Their re­spons­es to his chal­lenge was fick­le. He took his con­fi­dence in­to the men's over­all and through­out the ex­e­cu­tion of the manda­to­ry pos­es the au­di­ence stayed in his cor­ner, height­en­ing his sense of cer­ti­tude.

Sanker out of Long Cir­cu­lar Well­ness Club, un­der train­er As­ton Ash­by, had pre­vi­ous­ly en­tered and won the novice class at the Sport World Clas­sic, but it's the first time in 16 con­sec­u­tive years of train­ing, he of­fered him­self and fol­lowed through on com­pet­ing un­der the TTBBFF ban­ner. Lau­ra Doon took home the Miss T&T prize. She was the lone ath­lete in this class, but her mus­cle de­vel­op­ment and over­all pre­sen­ta­tion was of a high qual­i­ty which the au­di­ence salut­ed with rap­tur­ous cheers. It was now clear that fit­ness buffs in the at­ten­dance and the judges alike shared sim­i­lar views on which ath­lete de­served to be called as win­ner, as wit­nessed in the Body­fit­ness Open Class won by T'Chell Har­ris and the new Mr Physique cat­e­go­ry won by Louis War­ren-Charles. The week­end card fea­tured 33 ath­letes in the spot­light, but the au­di­ence jeered the ma­jor­i­ty of them who were vis­i­bly un­der­pre­pared for this pres­ti­gious fit­ness and body sculpt­ing event.
