T&T and West Indies all rounder Dwayne Bravo says that the Guyanese players must believe in themselves, if they are to perform well in the upcoming Airtel Champions League in South Africa. Bravo said yesterday that it was a huge disappointment for him after T&T lost to Guyana in the semis but he now hopes that the South Americans can put up a good show in South Africa. "One thing I would like to tell the Guyana players is that they must not doubt themselves. They must have self belief going into this tournament and they would do well.
"When we played in the Champions League in India last year, the main reason we performed well was due to the fact that we believed in ourselves. We had that self belief that we could compete and not just take part in the tournament. With this attitude we were able to reach the finals." T&T went down at the final hurdle losing to New South Wales. Bravo will be involved in the Champions league this year with his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians.
He said however, it was very disappointing that his native country T&T could not qualify for the tournament. "We were gutted when we lost because we felt that we let down our country. However, we had some very good matches in the tournament and there were more positives than negatives at the end of it all. "We had some good performances from Adrian Barath, young Bravo (Darren), Keiron Pollard, Dave Mohammed and myself. This was good to see and I would like to tell the youngsters that it is not the end of the road for them, they have a lot of cricket to look forward to and they must keep on improving.
