Detour Shak Attack succumbed to its second loss of the North Zone Basketball Commission (NZBC) First Division League campaign, when Defence Force recorded an 89-84 victory, at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, on Sunday night.
After holding an even more convincing 42-23 lead at half-time, the reigning Super 10 Basketball League champions Defence Force slowed to allow Shak Attack back into the match, but in the end held on to take yet another win in what may be another inspired campaign. The army/coastguard combination was led by point-guard Derrick Boxill, who sank 23 points, while centre Keivan Bacquain followed up with ten points.
Shak Attack's national shooting guard Kurt "Coto" Christian was the team's leading scorer with 17 points, with forward Andy Best taking 16. Defence Force also won its Men's Second Division fixture on the day with a comfortable 66-55 victory over Togetherness. Anton Noel and Mark Roberts combined with 36 points for the winners. On Saturday, Caledonia Clippers, which dropped Shak Attack to its first loss of the campaign, last Tuesday 75-73, shunned San Juan Warriors 80-72 at the same venue. Forward Akil Paynter netted 21 points, followed by Dexter Morrain, who finished on 14 points. Warriors was led by Shorn Solomon with 16 points.
