A robber was shot and killed when he attempted to rob a bailiff and a lawyer in Couva on Wednesday.
Ramkaran Ramparas, 50, a licensed bailiff, and his driver Naresh Deokaran, 30, were conducting business at the office of lawyer Majeed Kadr sometime after 10 am. Ramparas said two men ran into the office and put guns to his head and to the head of the lawyer and shouted: "Just pass everything."
A struggle ensued. When Deokaran attempted to retaliate he was shot twice about the upper body and is now warded at hospital. As the robbers fled the scene, they started shooting at Ramparas who raised an alarm. He was grazed on the nose and the right elbow by the bullets. He returned gunfire and one of the robbers collapsed a short distance away on the road that leads to the Couva fire station. He died while the other escaped.
