Po­lice of­fi­cers re­cov­ered nine firearms, ar­rest­ed 25 peo­ple and is­sued over 50 fixed penal­ty no­tices over the Car­ni­val week­end.

A re­lease from the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice said, “As rev­ellers en­joyed Car­ni­val Mon­day, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed var­i­ous ex­er­cis­es across the na­tion to en­sure their con­tin­ued safe­ty. This re­sult­ed in the seizure of four guns, 25 ar­rests, and over 50 fixed penal­ty no­tices be­ing is­sued. These ad­di­tion­al gun finds bring the to­tal seized to nine since Fri­day.”

Giv­ing de­tails, it said dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Care­nage on Mon­day, mem­bers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force were alert­ed by a pass­ing mo­torist that oc­cu­pants of a ve­hi­cle had thrown an ob­ject out of the ve­hi­cle’s win­dow. Of­fi­cers lat­er found a P80 nine-mil­lime­tre firearm, loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

On Mon­day, South West­ern Di­vi­sion of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to in­for­ma­tion of the ar­rival of a ves­sel near Erin Beach. There, they saw a man walk­ing along the beach with a back­pack. On see­ing the of­fi­cers, the man dropped the back­pack, ran off and es­caped. The of­fi­cers found a re­volver with three rounds of .38 spl am­mu­ni­tion in the back­pack.

Of­fi­cers as­signed to the Cou­va Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment al­so re­cov­ered a Ruger P95DC fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 10 rounds of 9MM.

And fi­nal­ly, North East­ern Di­vi­sion of­fi­cers found a Glock 22 pis­tol with a loaded mag­a­zine and three rounds of 40-cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion in San­ta Cruz.

The 25 peo­ple were ar­rest­ed for var­i­ous of­fences, in­clud­ing pos­ses­sion of an of­fen­sive weapon, dri­ving un­der the in­flu­ence and dis­or­der­ly be­hav­iour.
