A 35-year-old man from Blake Avenue Extension, Damarie Hill, Sangre Grande, was robbed of $9,000 in cash on Monday, after responding to an online car sale advertisement.
The incident occurred at 1 pm on Dorata Street, Eastern Main Road, near Pan Land Ltd.
Police said the man was communicating with the seller when he was approached by two suspects. One of the suspects demanded the cash and a struggle ensued. The second suspect then pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim, who threw $9,000 in cash on the ground.
When one of the suspects attempted to pick up the money, the victim tried to stop him but heard a loud explosion and ran to the safety of Pan Land Ltd. The suspects also fled with the cash.
The victim, who sustained minor injuries during the altercation, sought medical treatment at the St Joseph Health Centre. Police are continuing investigations into the incident.
Carapichaima man injured during botched robbery
A 24-year-old resident of Bank Village, Carapichaima, was injured during an attempted robbery on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at 1 am along Sinaswee Street, Freeport, where the man was playing cards with neighbours.
Police said a green sedan entered the street and three individuals came out of the car and began to rob the residents.
The victim attempted to fight off the bandits but was shot in the right hand.
The suspects left without taking anything. The victim was taken to the Couva Health Facility, where he received medical attention and is in stable condition.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
