Caribbean Airlines launched its “Welcome Home” campaign at Adam Smith Square, Ariapita Avenue, on Saturday with cultural performances, workshops, food and the song/jingle “Welcome Home” recorded by Machel Montano/Voice/Agent Sasco and Travis World.
It was a family atmosphere when Guardian Media visited “D Square” filled with Carnival and culinary workshops, Caribbean Steelpan Connextion Ensemble, tassa, tamboo bamboo, riddim sections, moko jumbies, revellers, face painting, wire bending Maracas bake and shark vendors, chow, and other food vendors, sugar cane juice and snack vendors.
There was a large mural commissioned by the airline and members of the public were invited to paint on the wall.
Speaking to Guardian Media, Executive Manager, Marketing and Loyalty Caribbean Airlines Ltd Alicia Cabrera said “This is the official launch of our campaign “Welcome Home” for 2023.
“Pre-pandemic, we were doing a lot of promotions because we feel that the positioning of the brand has evolved.
“So we’ve refreshed our rebranding and then came the pandemic. We’ve been planning and are on a path to showcase the best of the Caribbean.
“We’re still in the pandemic, but now that things have reopened, this is where we have crafted our story and want to shout about it and we’re starting in T&T; it is our home.”
She said this was the perfect place for the airline to begin this story and it was going to continue throughout the region,
Cabrera said CAL’s next launch would be in Guyana to coincide with the country’s festival of Mashraman, Republic Day on February 23.
She added that part of T&T’s culture was well represented in the food at Adam Smith Square such as bake and shark, chow, and even a bit of Jamaica was represented culinary-wise in jerk chicken, corn soup, and as a people, they were very proud of who they were in the Caribbean.
Cabrera said that VisitTrinidad also had a booth to showcase the best of T&T, there was a cooking workshop showing patrons how to make food like roti, and pepper roti.
She replied that it was a typical fun-filled family day to kick off who the airline and the country’s people represented.
Cabrera said, however, as the “Mother of All Carnivals” was upon us, it was “our time” as well to welcome the airline’s customers, citizens in the Diaspora, first-time visitors as well as locals to welcome home.
Regarding the song/jingle “Welcome Home” recorded by Machel Montano/Voice/Agent Sasco and Travis World, she replied that it represented who we are in the Caribbean.
