An employee with the Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (Cepep) was killed while cutting grass in Caroni on Wednesday morning.
Arshad Baal was shot multiple times by gunmen around 8 am on Royaltern Avenue, La Paille Village, Caroni.
A report said a black car stopped next to Baal and his co-worker who had their backs turned to the road. The occupants opened fire on them.
Baal died at the scene, while his injured colleague was rushed to hospital by a passer-by.
Police investigators are yet to establish a motive for the killing.
Cop, wife arrested for fraud
A Police Constable and his wife were arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad on Wednesday morning as part of a probe into forged documents submitted to the High Court in an ongoing civil matter.
Investigating officer said the constable was last assigned to the Traffic Branch, He was arrested at his home around 11 am while his wife was arrested at her workplace about an hour earlier.
Sources said the woman’s workplace was searched and several documents seized.
Police said suspicions were aroused when the signatures on several documents, submitted by the couple, were inconsistent with those of other documents.
They said that the people whose signatures appeared on the documents denied having signed them.
The man and his wife are expected to be questioned by investigators.
The investigations are being led by Cpl Nobutt, of the Fraud Squad.
Fake cops rob Princes Town man of $50,000
A Princes Town man, who was tricked into believing police officers were banging on his door yesterday morning, was robbed of $50,000.
A report said that around 1.30 am, the 52-year-old man, a PH driver, was awakened by banging on the front door at his Niamath Trace, Iere Village home. He heard male voices shouting "police". Thinking they were police officers, he opened the door. Instead, he was confronted by four bandits dressed in dark coloured clothing. They robbed him of $50,000, a $1,500 cellphone and ten gold rings. PC Harripersad is investigating.
