Mical Teja’s 2024 Soca hit DNA seems to be the song of choice by many for this year’s Carnival.
“DNA by Mical Teja because it’s everywhere and it’s a nice song,” said Mariah Mathura as Guardian Media polled people in downtown Port-of-Spain yesterday.
“I like DNA by Mical Teja. It’s a really good song and I love the vibe of it,” Elan Saidwan said.
And to some people, the song is a strong contender to win the Road March title for 2024.
“DNA just runs in my DNA ... and I still think even though it’s been around for a little while. Road March here we come!” another woman said.

In a WhatsApp message to Guardian Media yesterday, Mical Teja, real name Mical Williams, whose music video has 2.1 million views on YouTube said, “I feel happy that people are loving DNA. To me, it speaks to how patriotic we are as people and that regardless of the negative we overcome it with love and happiness.”
Deejays (DJ’s) who work at radio stations under the Guardian Media umbrella said that DNA seems to be the song for the season. However, some said other tunes may give Teja a run for his money.
Rossanno “Dr Ross” Chaitsingh of Vibe CT 105 said Nadia Batson’s Market and Olatunji’s Inventor are also hits at the parties.
“It looking like we have a surprise in the Road March this year,” Dr Ross declared.
DJ and announcer at Slam 100.5FM Kris Kennedy, who is also a soca artiste, believes Bunji Garlin’s Carnival Contract is slowly creeping up and can be a contender for Road March.
Another SLAM DJ, Ewart Mundy also known as DJ Watty said people are requesting it more at events but he said apart from road march contenders there are songs people are enjoying at parties.
“The Ola Inventor, the Waddicks Beat Rum Bad, Kris Kennedy Party Budget,” he used as songs grabbing attention.
Anxiety by Patrice Roberts and GBM Nutron’s and Farmer Nappy’s In the Centre were also mentioned as party favourites by the DJs.
Visiting DJ Rashad Edwin, from Queens, New York, said Trinbagonians there were enjoying the Express Yuhself Riddim by Travis World Music.
