Three men were arrested, and a high-powered rifle as well as a quantity of cocaine were seized by police officers during weekend anti-crime exercises conducted in the Port of Spain and South-Western Divisions.
According to a release from the Police Service, in the first incident, officers received information about a man armed with a firearm in the Gonzales district, and proceeded to the location around 11:55 am, on Saturday (November 30, 2024).
There, they observed a suspect with an object resembling a firearm in his possession. On seeing the officers in the marked police vehicle, the man ran off.
A check of the area resulted in the discovery of an AR-15 rifle loaded with a magazine containing 11 rounds of ammunition.
Meanwhile, in the Point Fortin district, police officers conducted an Operation Safe Streets exercise between 6 pm and 10 pm, on Saturday.
During that exercise, two men, ages 58 and 38 years, were arrested in separate incidents for possession of quantities of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
And a 40-year-old Penal man was held in connection with robbery offences in the district.
The operation included officers of the South-Western Division Task Force, the Penal Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Point Fortin CID, and the Erin and Santa Flora Police Stations.
