Three men were ar­rest­ed, and a high-pow­ered ri­fle as well as a quan­ti­ty of co­caine were seized by po­lice of­fi­cers dur­ing week­end an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed in the Port of Spain and South-West­ern Di­vi­sions.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Po­lice Ser­vice, in the first in­ci­dent, of­fi­cers re­ceived in­for­ma­tion about a man armed with a firearm in the Gon­za­les dis­trict, and pro­ceed­ed to the lo­ca­tion around 11:55 am, on Sat­ur­day (No­vem­ber 30, 2024).

There, they ob­served a sus­pect with an ob­ject re­sem­bling a firearm in his pos­ses­sion. On see­ing the of­fi­cers in the marked po­lice ve­hi­cle, the man ran off.

A check of the area re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of an AR-15 ri­fle loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 11 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

Mean­while, in the Point Fortin dis­trict, po­lice of­fi­cers con­duct­ed an Op­er­a­tion Safe Streets ex­er­cise be­tween 6 pm and 10 pm, on Sat­ur­day.

Dur­ing that ex­er­cise, two men, ages 58 and 38 years, were ar­rest­ed in sep­a­rate in­ci­dents for pos­ses­sion of quan­ti­ties of co­caine for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

And a 40-year-old Pe­nal man was held in con­nec­tion with rob­bery of­fences in the dis­trict.

The op­er­a­tion in­clud­ed of­fi­cers of the South-West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force, the Pe­nal Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID), the Point Fortin CID, and the Erin and San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice Sta­tions.
