A lime among a group of young men turned fatal after an 18-year-old teenager was shot after he and his friends were robbed by three men outside the MovieTowne Complex, Invaders Bay, on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the full view of patrons who were socialising at the popular MovieTowne's Greens which is located between the Cineplex and Marriott Hotel. Several people, including mothers with babies in their arms, had to scamper for safety as gunshots rang out. Lawrence Lendon Taylor died at the scene of the incident after he was shot multiple times by a gunman after he voiced his dissatisfaction as he and his friends were being robbed.
The incident occurred around 9.45 pm, police said. Outside Taylor's Baird Street, Carenage, home, yesterday, neighbours and friends described him as a "cool tess." Many expressed shock over the incident, saying the "youthman" will be missed by all who knew him.
A R.I.P Facebook group was created hours after the killing. Taylor, also known as "Pretty Boy" was a past student of Mucurapo Secondary School. He received a fatal shot to the head by his attacker. Police said Taylor was in the company of two other teenagers when three men approached and began to heckle the boys.
The suspects, one armed with a gun, ordered the teens to hand over their jewelry. Investigators said the boys were relieved of three gold chains together valued $22,000. Taylor was relieved of a silver chain. As Taylor expressed his displeasure over the robbery, he was shot. He ran a short distance towards the car park but collapsed on a bridge over a pond. The armed suspect walked up to Taylor and shot him once in the head before he and his other accomplices quickly made their escape in a waiting vehicle. One of Taylor's friends also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, officers said.
A report was made for the police and officers from the Western Division's joint army and police patrol rushed to the scene and went in search of the suspects who could not be found. At the time of the shooting, a neighbour said, Taylor's sister Darcel was having dinner inside MovieTowne when she got a telephone call about the incident.
