Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh toured the New Sangre Grande Hospital Project with UDeCOTT Chairman Noel Garcia on Wednesday morning. Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande Roger Monroe was also among the touring party.
After being briefed on the overall construction Status of the three-storey, 106-bed hospital, they were invited to walk through the facility. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, it is the intention of the Ministry and the ERHA to begin operations in March this year. It is believed the ERHA will be able to provide a broader suite of services to the Valencia, Sangre Grande, Toco, Matelot, Cumuto, Manzanilla and Mayaro districts with the additions of the following:
– Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) Department
– Dedicated Blood Bank
– Pathology Services
– Full time Cardiology
– Fluoroscopy
– MRI imaging moving from 16-slice CT to 128-slice CT
The hospital will have its own oxygen generating capacity for its three Operating Theatres and ten Critical Care Units. There will also be dedicated Accident and Emergency Departments for pediatric and maternal services.
Staff at the Hospital can look forward to utilizing a new teaching centre, conference room, library, on-call rooms, gym and wellness centre.
Minister Deyalsingh says he was satisfied with the rate of progress and emphasized that as the project moves from construction to the commissioning stage to the completion stage that communication with the general public is critical to a successful transition.
