Two injured in a drive-by shooting along St Paul Street, Port-of-Spain, yesterday afternoon left two men nursing injuries at hospital.
The man believed to be the intended target was shot in the left leg and hip as he hustled to sell water to passers-by at 3 pm, as students and elderly persons walked to their homes nearby.
The second victim was said to be one of the shooters in the car, whom officers claimed was accidentally shot by his accomplices.
Officers who responded to the shooting took the injured men to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were both treated and warded in stable conditions.
A party of officers, led by ASP Soodeen, Insp Durga, Sgt Bhagwandeen, along with Cpls Dennis and Ali, visited the scene where several spent 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm spent shells were recovered.
In a separate incident, the operations of the San Juan North Secondary School were not disrupted despite a shooting nearby during the mid-morning period.
Officials said the school had been hosting a Form Two Parents' Day and as such, the daily operations were restricted to a few students present.
While the parents, students and teachers who were present heard the gunfire, the school continued with its planned activities under the watchful eyes of the uniformed officers who arrived shortly after reports were received. - Anna-Lisa Paul
