Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh says as Opposition’s shadow member for labour, he is urging Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, ORTT to clarify the circumstances and rationale behind the non-renewal of the contract of the former President of the Industrial Court, Mrs Deborah Thomas- Felix.
In a media release Indarsingh said the national community has been rife with speculation, concern, conspiracy theories and major uncertainty regarding the removal of the former President of the Court.
He said this uncertainty threatens to undermine confidence in the Court as a key player in the labour relations process, as well as undermine the decision-making process undertaken by Her Excellency in the non-renewal of Mrs Thomas-Felix’s contract.
The Couva South MP’s call comes days after concerns were raised by the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) and the National Trade Union Centre (NATUC) about President Christine Kangaloo’s decision not to renew the contract of former president Deborah Thomas Felix.
Thomas Felix who was in Geneva, Switzerland was reportedly called by Her Excellency days before her contract was about to expire.
Yesterday the Law Association called for changes to be made in how judges are appointed to the Industrial Court.
