Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2024 is Jenelle Thongs. She will represent T&T at the 73rd Miss Universe competition in September in Mexico City, where delegates from over 130 other countries are expected to participate.
Thongs, Miss Morvant, was chosen on Sunday evening at the Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s, where 11 contestants made their final struts for the crown.
The night’s tension became palpable as the top three were announced - Miss Morvant, Miss Manzanilla (Kimoy-Ann Felmine), and Miss Laventille (Athaliah Samuel).
As Miss Morvant and Miss Manzanilla awaited the final result that would change their lives, they closed their eyes and held each other’s hands, hoping their name would be called.
It was Thongs who was announced the winner. She was instantly met with loud cheers and applause from the audience.
After receiving the crown on stage, the teary-eyed queen placed her hand on her chest before raising it up, thanking God for the victory.
The first runner-up was Felmine (Miss Manzanilla) and second runner-up was Samuel (Miss Laventille).
Last year’s Miss Universe T&T was Faith Gillezeau.
Thongs is the former Supranational T&T, holds a BSc in Biology from the University of the West Indies and currently manages a dental clinic. Thongs has also nabbed eight other titles, including Miss Carnival T&T 2013, Miss Beauty T&T 2016 and Miss Heritage International 2016.
Other contestants who copped awards on the night were Miss Tunapuna Leana Shende (Miss Personality) and Miss Chaguanas, Makeda Browne-Elias (Most Improved and Voice of Change).
