St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen says the Government should have simply given the Ministry of Works and Transport $200million for road repair instead of creating the Secondary Road Rehabilitation and Improvement Company Limited. Her comments come after the Prime Minister moved the company from under the purview of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
Ameen said the creation of a special purpose company was always going to raise eyebrows.
"Many feel that something is definitely wrong as a next [sic] special purpose company is now being used as a tool for corruption as it is common opinion that the Secondary Road Rehabilitation and Improvement Company Limited was just a big propaganda stunt," Ameen said in a release.
She said she expects Minister Al Rawi to deliver on his promise of spending $400 million on road repairs.
