Po­lice have charged Cana­di­an YouTu­ber Chris Must List with sedi­tion, a day af­ter he was tak­en in­to cus­tody by of­fi­cers of the Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The YouTu­ber, whose re­al name is Christo­pher Arthur Hugh­es, had been in T&T film­ing videos with men car­ry­ing weapons in ar­eas of T&T known for gangs and crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty.

His videos were post­ed on his Youtube chan­nel, 'Chris Must List'.

The charge reads: "On Thurs­day 9th May 2024 in the Mag­is­te­r­i­al Dis­trict of North Trinidad, (you) pub­lished a sedi­tious pub­li­ca­tion to wit: an au­dio/vi­su­al video via YouTube the so­cial me­dia plat­forms con­trary to sec­tion 4(1)(c) of the Sedi­tion Act Chap­ter 11:04."

The charge is dat­ed May 29th, 2024.

The sec­tion of the Sedi­tion Act un­der which he is charged reads, "A per­son is guilty of an of­fence who pub­lish­es, sells, of­fers for sale or dis­trib­utes any sedi­tious pub­li­ca­tion."

On sum­ma­ry con­vic­tion, it car­ries a penal­ty of a fine of TT$3,000 and to im­pris­on­ment for two years; or on con­vic­tion on in­dict­ment to a fine of TT$20,000 and to im­pris­on­ment for five years, and any sedi­tious pub­li­ca­tion, the sub­ject mat­ter of the charge, shall be for­feit­ed.
