A team of senior prison officers have travelled to the United Kingdom as part of an ongoing programme to help tackle some of the challenges faced by the T&T Prison Service.
The team comprised Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (Administration), Dane Clarke; Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (Operations) Dennis Pulchan; Senior Superintendent of Prisons David Prince and prison officer Don Monroe.
The British High Commission said the visit was delivered under the framework of the bilateral Security MoU signed between the Governments of T&T and the United Kingdom in November 2017.
The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), the UK’s leading joint unit specialised in prisons, hosted the visiting delegation facilitated by the British High Commission, Port- of- Spain.
During the visit, the delegation visited two prisons in the Nottingham area and met senior officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Her Majesty’s Prisons and Probation Service, police and other law enforcement agencies.
The delegation also had the opportunity to see first-hand how the police, prison service and other law enforcement agencies work together in UK to tackle serious crime.
Deputy British High Commissioner Caroline Alcock said: “This visit to UK by a senior delegation from the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service follows previous visits to Trinidad by specialist officers from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit to share experience of how different law enforcement agencies work together to protect the public and disrupt criminal activities. It is a clear example of the ongoing co-operation and partnership between the UK and Trinidad and Tobago to tackle shared security challenges for the benefit of both countries.”
