Food security and energy co-operation were discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Guyana President Dr Irfaan Ali at Paramaribo in Suriname yesterday, where both men are attending the 43rd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of Caricom.
A press release from the Office of the Prime Minister stated, “Both leaders continue to work towards the full implementation of the decisions made during the Prime Minister’s recent trip to Guyana which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the countries.
“Today’s detailed discussions centered on food security and energy cooperation which will benefit both nations and the wider CARICOM.”
The release further stated that Rowley, along with other Caricom Heads of Government, also met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
“The meeting focused predominantly on the issues of climate change and energy security,” the release said of the session with Guterres.
It added that Dr Rowley was also carded to join regional leaders for the official opening ceremony of the conference later yesterday.
