Food se­cu­ri­ty and en­er­gy co-op­er­a­tion were dis­cussed dur­ing a meet­ing be­tween Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley and Guyana Pres­i­dent Dr Ir­faan Ali at Para­mari­bo in Suri­name yes­ter­day, where both men are at­tend­ing the 43rd Reg­u­lar Meet­ing of the Con­fer­ence of Heads of Gov­ern­ment of Cari­com.

A press re­lease from the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter stat­ed, “Both lead­ers con­tin­ue to work to­wards the full im­ple­men­ta­tion of the de­ci­sions made dur­ing the Prime Min­is­ter’s re­cent trip to Guyana which re­sult­ed in the sign­ing of a Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing be­tween the coun­tries.

“To­day’s de­tailed dis­cus­sions cen­tered on food se­cu­ri­ty and en­er­gy co­op­er­a­tion which will ben­e­fit both na­tions and the wider CARI­COM.”

The re­lease fur­ther stat­ed that Row­ley, along with oth­er Cari­com Heads of Gov­ern­ment, al­so met with Unit­ed Na­tions Sec­re­tary-Gen­er­al An­tónio Guter­res.

“The meet­ing fo­cused pre­dom­i­nant­ly on the is­sues of cli­mate change and en­er­gy se­cu­ri­ty,” the re­lease said of the ses­sion with Guter­res.

It added that Dr Row­ley was al­so card­ed to join re­gion­al lead­ers for the of­fi­cial open­ing cer­e­mo­ny of the con­fer­ence lat­er yes­ter­day.
