A man identified as a cousin of reputed gang leader Vaughn ‘Sandman’ Mieres was shot and killed in Maracas/St Joseph yesterday afternoon.
Dillon ‘Mission’ Mieres was shot dead by gunmen who ambushed a white Toyota sedan he was driving in Lleungo Village. His wife, Mary Reyes, who was seated in the front seat, was shot multiple times and is warded the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in critical condition.
Police said the gunmen crashed a white Nissan wagon into the couple’s car and then opened fire on them, killing Mieres on the spot. They abandoned the car on the scene and fled into nearby bushes.
On July 25, Sandman, his wife Alika “Letty” Dehere and two of his bodyguards, Kadir Joseph and Nigel ‘Blood’ Octin, were murdered at his Las Cuevas home.
Police said high powered rifles were used to carry out the killings and the murderers were said to have set their vehicles on fire and escaped by sea after the act was done.
A week later, on August 2, Durell ‘Shorto’ Raymond was charged with the four murders.
On August 13, in what police described as a reprisal for Sandman’s murder, a man identified as Shaquille “Papa” Eugene was shot dead.
