To­ba­go gy­ro ven­dor Elias Dab­bourah, 30, has died. Guardian Me­dia was in­formed that he passed away at 11:39 am Sat­ur­day at the In­ten­sive Care Unit of the Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. He was shot in his head by masked ban­dits dur­ing an at­tempt­ed rob­bery on Mon­day around 3:30 am. Dab­bourah was rushed to hos­pi­tal via an EHS am­bu­lance. Dab­bourah re­mained on life sup­port.

Fol­low­ing an as­sess­ment by a neu­rol­o­gist flown in from Trinidad on Tues­day, it was de­ter­mined that he had no brain ac­tiv­i­ty. Guardian Me­dia was in­formed that he took two breaths on his own on Wednes­day but re­mained in an un­con­scious state. De­spite the bleak prog­no­sis, mem­bers of his fam­i­ly con­tin­ued to hope for a mir­a­cle. Up to Fri­day, rel­a­tives held a vig­il out­side the hos­pi­tal.

Dab­bourah, of Feed­er Road, Canaan and an­oth­er em­ploy­ee had just con­clud­ed sales at their gy­ro stall near Re­pub­lic Bank, Crown Point, and was of­fload­ing their equip­ment at the Crown Point Plaza at Store Bay Lo­cal Road when they were ac­cost­ed. The men es­caped on foot. The or­deal was cap­tured on CCTV cam­eras.

An 18-year-old man is said to be in po­lice cus­tody and is as­sist­ing of­fi­cers with their in­ves­ti­ga­tions. This brings To­ba­go's mur­der toll to sev­en for 2019.
