Two men were arrested for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition during an anti-crime exercise conducted in Oropune Gardens, Piarco, on Wednesday 11th November 2020.
An official statement from the Police Service reports that officers obtained information that led them to 4th Avenue in Oropune Gardens, Piarco, at about 5:55 pm yesterday. At that location, they intercepted a white Nissan Sentra B15 vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and found and seized one Glock 17 pistol fitted with an automatic fire selector, along with one magazine containing 12 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.
The vehicle’s driver and the front seat passenger were both arrested and conveyed to the Arouca Police Station, along with the vehicle.
Searches were also carried out at the homes of both suspects; however, nothing illegal was found.
Enquiries are ongoing.
The exercise was supervised by Ag Cpl Beddasie along with a party of officers from the Area Central Task Force of the Northern Division.
