The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service arrested and charged two men in connection with two separate attempted murders and firearm-related offences.

Recent sustained and targeted anti-crime exercises conducted in the Northern Division, have resulted in significant inroads being made in preventing and detecting criminal activities and gang violence in the Maloney and Arima districts.
Among the successes arising out of these exercises, is the arrest and charging of two men in connection with two separate attempted murders and firearm-related offences.
JOSIAH JOHNSON of D’Abadie, was charged on Friday 3rd June 2022 in connection with the attempted murder of a man in D’Abadie which occurred on May 16th, 2022. He was also charged with possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life. JOHNSON was allegedly found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition at the time of his arrest on May 30th, 2022, by officers of the Maloney Crime Patrol Unit.
One other person had been previously charged in connection with this matter. NEBARE LEE was arrested on May 17th, 2022, and charged with attempted murder, possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life. At the time of his arrest LEE was allegedly in possession of a pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition. He appeared before an Arima Magistrate and was remanded into custody. LEE is expected back in court on June 28th, 2022.
In the second incident, LEON SYLVESTER, of D’Abadie, was charged in connection with an attempted murder incident which occurred on March 23rd, 2022. He was also charged with firearm-related offences.
Both JOHNSON and SYLVESTER are expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate tomorrow to answer to the charges.
Investigations into these matters were spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Paponette, Supt. Edwards, ASP Etienne and conducted by officers of the Maloney Criminal Investigations Department.
Meanwhile, an anti-crime exercise was conducted between 4 am and 8 am on Saturday 4th June, 2022, by officers of the Northern Division Task Force, Areas South and North and the Canine Branch, which resulted in one man being arrested and quantities of marijuana and ammunition being discovered in the Pinto district.
During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at the Pinto Road home of a male suspect. Ten packets containing 6.1 kilogrammes of marijuana were found hidden in flower pots on the premises. The man who was in the house at the time of the search, was arrested in connection with the find.
The same party of officers, acting on intelligence, proceeded to conduct a search in the vicinity of a utility pole along Pinto Road. The search resulted in officers finding three rounds of ammunition and a plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana.
Also, officers of the NDTF-North responding to a report of a robbery in the Aripo district recovered a vehicle which was reported stolen during the robbery incident.
Meanwhile, during an anti-crime exercise conducted between 3 pm and 7 pm on Sunday 5th June, 2022, officers of the NDTF Area North and Canine Branch, officers proceeded to the Mausica Lands cemetery, where they seized one Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with seven rounds of ammunition. A quantity of marijuana was also seized in the Arima district during the exercise.
Acting Commissioner of Police Mc Donald Jacob has praised the dedicated work of all officers of the Northern Division in achieving these successes and encourages them and all officers across the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to continue working hard against the criminal elements in our society.
