US Vice President Kamala Harris shared a call with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday, discussing the strengthening of energy security and climate resilience of the Caribbean.
According to a statement from the White House, “The Vice President conveyed to the Prime Minister that the Treasury Department would take action to help meet the region’s long-term energy needs.”
The Vice President and Prime Minister agreed to continue to work together on these and other common challenges, including addressing the situation in Haiti.
Harris has had close ties with Caricom, holding several meetings with Caribbean leaders since taking office.
US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago Candace Bond listed the meetings in a statement, “In September 2022, Vice President Harris announced the results of three high-level committees that she established to produce near-term solutions to pressing energy security, food security, and finance challenges confronting the region.
"At the Summit of the Americas in June 2022, Vice President Harris launched the US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030) to support the region’s long-term energy security and climate resilience priorities. The Vice President and the Prime Minister discussed PACC 2030 progress, including recent trips by the US Government’s PACC 2030 Investment Facilitation Team to support a pipeline of clean energy projects in the region."
Bond said it "reinforced the closeness, strength, and depth of our over 200 years of friendship and cooperation."
Vice President Harris also congratulated the Trinbagonian people on the election of President Christine Kangaloo.
