Carfita Games double gold medallist (400m/200m) Machel Cedenio continued his winning ways when he took the Boys' Under 18 400m title during the NAAA Junior Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain yesterday. Cedenio took the lead at the 200m mark and eventually got to the line in 46.68 seconds. He was followed by Petrotrin's Aaron Lewis, who grabbed the silver in 48.55, while Asa Geverar won the bronze in 48.55. Both Cedenio and Guevara have already qualified for the World Junior Championships with qualifying times of 20.82 (200m) and 47.33 (400m) respectively. In the Under 18 Girls 400m, Kenisha Spann of Neon Trackers took outran Marissa Gale of Air Bon Sonics (56.20) and Sade Andrews of Southern Athletics (57.51), who placed second and third respectively.
The Boys' Under 20 100m sprint saw a close finish between Johathan Holder (10.62) and Ashran Sobers (10.63), who were separated by a mere split second, while Ayodele Taffe claimed the bronze. Sobers had the lead at the 40 metre stage but was caught with just five metres to go by Holder, who came from fourth to capture the gold. Meanwhile, Concord's Lisa Wickiam clocked 11.86 to win the Girls' Under 20 100m in style, having taken the lead just after 20 meters. Wickiam, who has already qualified for the World Junior Championships along with Kernesha Spann, was followed by Memphis' Peli Alzola and Chelsea Charles in 12.21. In the Girls Under 18 Shot Put, Toco's Partious Warren placed first with 13.50m, followed by Chelsea James of Tobago Falcons (12.73m) and Marielle Pire of Burley (11.73m).
