Salome Bailey and Daryn Prince stood out at the weekend when the T&T Cycling Federation concluded a four-month Track Cycling Series League at the Arima Velodrome.
Bailey carried the Madonna Wheelers flag with pride as she led a two-girl field in the Youth Development for Under-7 riders, ahead of Precious Sonnilal of Rigtech Sonics. The tiny figure of Sonnilal has also shown herself to selectors as a talent to be aware of in the future, but at the weekend she could not get ahead of the dominant Bailey, crossing the finish line for the gold medal.
In the boys' equivalent, it was Prince of the Vapor Wake Multisport club proving his worth with a convincing ride that propelled him ahead of second-place Orion Dandrade (Madonna Wheelers), the grandson of Racing Chairman Gregory Dandrade, and third Zayne Vierra, who represented Vapor Wake Multisport.
The youth development event for girls' U-9 also produced a spectacle on the day, courtesy of Madonna Wheelers' Leah Mitchell who pedalled away with the gold medal in style, leaving her colleague Xhariya Alexander (Madonna Wheelers) and Abigail Titte of the Rigtech Sonics in her trail.
In the girls' U-13 category, Annalyse Watson entered the race in the third position, needing to seal the win to lift the overall title. However, she failed to hold off Scarlett Thorne of Arima Wheelers, who unleashed a burst of speed that earned her the win and top award.
Watson settled for the runner-up position while Lisa Joe Boodhoo of Rigtech Sonics was third.
