Joseph Cadogan and Jordane Dookie were crowned the Sunshine Snacks Tranquility Open men’s and women’s singles champions Saturday evening at the Tranquility Courts on Victoria Avenue, Port-of-Spain.
Cadogan entered the match as the third-seeded player going up against the eight-seeded Kale Dalla Costa, who, after an almost perfect display in the early round of the recently concluded Junior Davis Cup Tournament in the Dominican Republic, but nerves got the better of him in the final against the Bahamas.
Instead, the match turned out to be a teaching session for the tennis veteran, as he romped to the victory courtesy of an almost flawless 6-0, 6-3 victory over the country’s upcoming talent on court two.
In the women’s equivalent, it was a battle between the tournament’s number one and number two-seeded players. Dookie, the top-ranked player, ensured that there were no surprises by brushing aside Ella Carrington in the first set 6-2.
And later, she wrapped up the match with a sweat-less 6-0 victory in the second set.
Only a week ago, Dookie, who fine-tuned her skills by competing in a number of international tournaments over the year, copped her first title of the tournament when she combined forces with Lee Anne Lingo for the women’s doubles.
