Naparima College and San Juan North Secondary both made it five wins on the trot each from as many matches to remain joint leaders of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) 16-team Premier Division after round five, on Wednesday.
Down South at its Lewis Street, San Fernando venue, four-time champion Naparima made it 22 goals without conceding at home with a 3-0 defeat of Malick Secondary.
The trio of Jaron Pascall, J'kwon Bailey with a penalty, and Tevin Pantor were all on the scoresheet for the Travis Mulraine-coached southerners to push their points tally to a maximum 15 points, the same as San Juan North, 1-0 victors away to the previously unbeaten Arima North at the Arima Municipal Stadium.
Jaheem Danclair scored the lone goal of the contest for San Juan North, two minutes into time added on at the end of the first half. He was fastest to react to head home a rebound after a shot from Lindell Sween took a wicked bounce on the surface in front of goalkeeper Diaz, before ricocheting off his knee into the San Juan North players' path.
In the second half, Arima North led by the influential play of Darion Marfan, and Jemaul Ashing created a few nervous moments for the Jerry Moe-coached San Juan North, but in the end the the San Juan boys held on for what could turn out to be three vital points in the title race.
However, at Mucurapo Road, reigning National Inter-Col champion Fatima College had its perfect start to the season halted in a 0-0 draw with defending National League champion St Benedict's College to slip to third on the table with 13 points. St Benedict's remain in the bottom half of the standings with five points in the 12th spot.
After losing their first two matches, St Anthony's is now up to fourth on the table with nine points after they clobbered Chaguanas North 10-1 at Edinburgh 500 recreation ground, Chaguanas led by a hat trick from Aalon Wilson-Wright.
The trio of Andell Fraser, Theo Cravador and Jean-Marc Thomas added two goals each for the "Westmooring Tigers" in their third straight win while Mordecai Ford added the other item, and Negaste Moore the consolation strike for the host who trailed 5-1 at the half.
Elsewhere, St Mary's College edged East Mucurapo Secondary 3-2 in an all-North Zone clash, Bishop's High stunned host Queen's Royal College (QRC) for their first win of the season, Pleasantville Secondary picked up their first point of the campaign in a 2-2 draw with Trinity College East, and Speyside Secondary held visitors and former champions Presentation College of San Fernando to a 1-all draw.
